WHO IS THE BEST MECHANIC IN LOCAL 12?
We have all heard somebody declare that he or she is the best mechanic in Local 12 but up until now it was only that person’s opinion. Now it can be decided—now if you talk the talk you must walk the walk. The first annual Mechanics Competition will be held on Saturday January 22, 2011. At stake will be the best mechanic of Local 12 for the year 2011. Are you ready? Now lets get it on to see who is the best of the best! Mechanics Competition – January 22, 2011

January 5th Union Meeting is the cutoff date for the entry fee.
The entry fee is $30.00. All contestants must pay the entry fee by the January 5, 2011 Union Meeting. Checks should be made payable to the Local 12 Advancement Fund, cash will be accepted.
$15.00 of the entry fee will go towards the prize for the winner of the competition and $15.00 will be distributed amongst the sick member in attendance. If no sick members are in attendance the money will be sent to a sick member.
Members of Local 12 may come just to watch the competition but they must pay a $15.00 attendance fee which will be added to the sick member collection.
Competition will follow International Master Apprentice Competition standards.
Contestants must be at the Union hall by 6:30 a.m. There will be a ½ hour meeting prior to the competition 7 a.m. start time. We anticipate that we should be finished by 3:30 p.m.
Projects will be announced the morning of the competition only.
Each contestant will receive a cut sheet with further instructions and directions.
There will be a specific amount of material for each project.
Each segment of each project will have a specified amount of time.
Once a timed segment is completed, the judges will judge.
Judges will be past International Master Apprentice Competition participants. If past IMAC participants enter the competition then present and former AJEF Instructors will judge.
Judges will be in the room during the entire competition.
Each contestant will have full access to all equipment in the shop.
Each contestant must bring their own tools.
The only tools that will be supplied are the squares.
The winner will receive half of the entry fee, a bucket of tools and bragging rights.
The winner must compete the following year to retain status of ‘Local 12’s Best’
The Apprenticeship Coordinator and another Union representative will tally and keep all scores confidential until it is time for the winner to be announced.
The winner will be announced at the February Union meeting.

The following dates have been set for Mechanics Classes.

Saturday February 26, 2011 to begin at 7:00 AM
Saturday June 11, 2011 to begin at 7:00 AM

It is imperative that you bring your tools with you to each of the classes.

on the list and let us know what you would like to work on.
We also need a head count to order material.
